Mina Cup 2027: What Australian Clubs Need to Know
The Mina Cup 2027 runs from 1 to 5 April 2027 in Dubai. It's one of the Middle East's top youth football tournaments, with boys' teams from U12 to U16 coming from every continent. If you run a junior club or academy in Australia, this guide covers who plays, the age groups, how the dates fit your state's school holidays, and how to get your club ready by April.
Olimpia Tour is the Mina Cup's exclusive Regional Representative for Australia, so Australian clubs can apply and travel with an Australian company.
What is the Mina Cup?
The Mina Cup started in Dubai in 2021. It runs youth events throughout the year, and the main tournament is held each spring at JA Sports Centre in Dubai.
Teams from more than 30 countries have taken part. Past entrants include academy sides from Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace and Southampton, along with Corinthians from Brazil, Yokohama FC from Japan, Mumbai City FC from India and the New York Red Bulls. Football West, the governing body for football in Western Australia, has also sent a team.
For an Australian junior player, that means a week of football against opponents they would never meet in a local league.
Age groups for 2027
The 2027 tournament is for boys' teams. Age groups are based on birth year, just like Australian junior football.
| Age group | Born in | Format |
|---|---|---|
| U12 | 2015 or later | 9-a-side |
| U13 | 2014 or later | 11-a-side |
| U14 | 2013 or later | 11-a-side |
| U15 | 2012 or later | 11-a-side |
| U16 | 2011 or later | 11-a-side |
Teams play group matches first, then knockout rounds decide the champions in each age group. Every team is guaranteed a minimum number of matches. The organisers will confirm the exact number once the draw is final.

Do the dates fit your school holidays?
It depends on your state.
- •Victoria and Queensland: yes. The autumn school holidays run from 26 March to 11 April 2027, so the whole tournament falls in the break.
- •NSW, South Australia, WA, Tasmania and the ACT: no. Easter is early in 2027, and these states don't start their holidays until 10 April. Players would miss a few days of school, so families will need their school's approval.
If you're outside Victoria or Queensland, talk to families and schools early. A clear itinerary and plenty of notice make approval much easier.
What a week at the Mina Cup looks like
Every tour is different, but a typical trip from Australia looks like this:
1. Day 1: fly to Dubai. There are direct flights from several Australian cities.
2. Day 2: arrive, check in to the team hotel, and do a light recovery session.
3. Days 3-7: tournament days, with group matches, then knockouts and finals, plus time to watch other age groups.
4. Free time: a team activity in Dubai, such as a desert experience, the old souks or the beach.
5. Day 8: fly home.
Most clubs plan 7 to 9 days door to door.

How entry works
International clubs, professional academies and selected teams can apply to play. The Mina Cup team reviews each application based on the places available in each age group and the level of the team. Entry is confirmed only after that review.
As the exclusive Regional Representative for Australia, we manage this for Australian clubs. We prepare your application, deal with the organisers, and build the travel around your team: flights, hotel, transfers and the program on the ground. The Mina Cup team makes the final decision on entry.
"We took on the Mina Cup because Australian juniors almost never get to play teams from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas in the same week. Distance makes it hard. The Mina Cup puts all of that in one place, over the Easter break, and we wanted Australian clubs to be able to get there through an Australian company." – Maximo Naveiro, Founder
Getting your club ready: a timeline to April
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| October-November 2026 | Register your interest. Choose your age group(s) and check how many players are keen. |
| November 2026 | Hold an information night for parents. |
| By mid-December 2026 | Confirm your squad and secure your place. |
| January 2027 | Check passports. Many countries require at least 6 months' validity when you travel. |
| February-March 2027 | Train as a squad, sort out the travel kit and hold a pre-departure meeting with families. |
| Late March 2027 | Fly to Dubai. |
Clubs that start early get the most out of a tournament like this. Families have time to plan, and coaches have time to prepare the squad for a different style of football.
Why play overseas at all?
Australian junior players often face the same handful of teams all season. At the Mina Cup, a U14 squad might play an English academy in the morning and a team from Mexico or India in the afternoon. Each opponent plays differently, and players have to adapt quickly. That's how they grow: new opponents, real pressure, away from home.
It also helps you keep players. A team with an international tournament in April has a reason to stay together and train hard all summer.
