2027 World Cups: The Year to Plan a Team Sports Tour

By Maximo, Founder, Olimpia Tour6 min read

2027 is one of the biggest years in world sport, with world cups in rugby, women's football, netball, basketball and cricket. Here's every major event, when it is, and how a school, club or academy team can plan a tour around it.

A world cup changes the feel of a host country for weeks. Streets fill with fans, local clubs get busier and the whole place talks about one sport. For a touring team, that energy turns a normal trip into something players remember for years.

Below is a quick table of the 2027 calendar, a short guide to each event and practical advice on planning. Your own team plays its own fixtures; the world cup is the backdrop.

Planning

How to plan a tour around a major event

Major events make a tour more exciting, but they also make planning more important. These are the points that matter most.

Book early

Start 12 to 18 months ahead. That gives time to fix dates, arrange local fixtures and plan fundraising with families.

Expect accommodation demand

Hotels in host cities fill up fast during a world cup. Locking in rooms early keeps the squad together and the options wider.

Buy tickets separately

Match tickets are bought separately by fans through official tournament channels, subject to availability. We plan your itinerary around match days, so your group is free if you hold tickets.

Keep your own sport at the centre

Your fixtures and coaching come first. Build the plan around them, then add sightseeing and fan-zone time.

Quick answers

FAQ

Which world cups are on in 2027?

Rugby in Australia, the FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil, netball in Sydney, basketball in Qatar and men's cricket in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The Mina Cup in Dubai and the World Beach Games in Da Nang add youth football and beach sports.

Do you supply match tickets?

No. Match tickets are sold separately through official tournament channels, subject to availability. We plan your itinerary around match days so your group can attend if you have tickets.

Can our team combine more than one event?

Sometimes. The Netball World Cup and the Rugby World Cup are both in Australia, a few weeks apart, so a multi-sport school group could plan around both. Tell us your sports and dates and we will look at the options.

How far ahead should we book?

We recommend 12 to 18 months ahead. Accommodation in host cities is in high demand during major events, and early planning gives more choice of fixtures and flights.

Is Olimpia Tour linked to these tournaments?

Olimpia Tour is an independent sports tour company and is not affiliated with these tournaments or governing bodies, except the Mina Cup, where we are the Exclusive Mina Cup Regional Representative for Australia.
